Kontrasepsi suntik sebagai salah satu kontrasepsi hormonal merupakan kontrasepsi yang efektif dengan tingkat kegagalan yang rendah. Salah satunya adalah Depo-Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA). Namun, wanita yang menggunakan kontrasepsi ini dapat mengalami efek samping. Beberapa penelitian melaporkan perdebatan tentang efek samping suntikan DMPA pada metabolisme lemak yaitu adanya peningkatan dan penurunan kadar kolesterol total (TC), trigliserida (TG), dan kolesterol lipoprotein densitas rendah (LDL-C) pada pengguna DMPA.
Untuk mengatasi efek samping tersebut ada beberapa obat tradisional yang telah banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat Indonesia salah satunya adalah daun jati belanda, sehingga dilakukan penelitian untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh daun jati belanda terhadap kadar kolesterol akseptor KB suntik.
Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi eksperimen dengan model desain posttest pretest satu kelompok dan dilakukan intervensi pemberian daun jati belanda dalam bentuk sediaan teh untuk diminum pagi dan sore selama 10 hari.
Hasil penelitian dari 48 responden yang telah diberikan/meminum teh daun jati belanda selama 10 hari efektif menurunkan kadar kolesterol dan LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), namun sebaliknya kadar HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) dan Trigliserida tidak memberikan hasil yang signifikan.
